Four military Humvees that served in Middle East war zones have a new mission in eastern Indiana. The Henry County Sheriff's Department recently acquired the military surplus vehicles at no cost at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.

Eugene Keith of the sheriff's department tells The Courier-Times that one vehicle will be used for accident investigations and another will be assigned to the SWAT team. The two remaining vehicles will be stored and used for parts.

Keith says the 3.5-ton vehicles will help investigators avoid getting stuck as they try to reach accident scenes in wintry conditions.

The department also acquired about four dozen laptops to use in its vehicles.
