Three Muncie clerks plead guilty to bath salt sales

MUNCIE -

Three convenience store clerks have pleaded guilty to selling synthetic drugs known commonly as bath salts and to testify against those who prosecutors say headed up the central Indiana operation.

The three men were among eight people arrested in June by police after raids of convenience stores in Muncie and Yorktown. Authorities said police had received calls from people concerned about stores selling the synthetic drugs to adolescents.

The Star Press reports a Delaware County judge sentenced the three clerks on misdemeanor charges to 364 days in jail. Defense attorney Mark McKinney says the three men played a small role in the drug operation and were remorseful.

All three described in court working 84-hour weeks at the stores and sending much of their income to relatives in India.
