Police in northeastern Indiana say a Norfolk Southern mail train has struck a pickup truck that was left unoccupied on a railroad track.
WANE-TV and kpcnews.com quote the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department as saying the pickup was left sitting on the track nearly 400 feet west of the Center Street crossing in the town of Waterloo, about 25 miles north of Fort Wayne The westbound train struck the pickup shortly after 4 p.m. and dragged it about one mile down the track before coming to a stop.
The pickup was destroyed and police estimated the collision caused about $200,000 damage to the train and tracks.
