The National Park Service plans to give a presentation on a draft environmental impact statement on a plan to restore eroding beaches at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.

The Times of Munster reports the plan recommends methods to repair erosion and damage to the dunes and beaches at the lakeshore. The problem is some areas have too much sand, and other areas don't have enough.

The plan is funded through the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Agency and the Army Corps of Engineers. The Park Service says the plan provides scientifically-based alternatives for the restoration of natural sediment movement along the southern shore of Lake Michigan.

The public meeting will be held October 23. The public will have 60 days to comment.
