INDIANAPOLIS -

Family members say a Roman Catholic priest from Indianapolis who went missing for a week in Greece is trying to head home after he made it safely to Germany.

The Indianapolis Star reported Tuesday that relatives of the Rev. Christiaan Kappes and his Greek translator fled to Germany, where she was hospitalized for injuries from an assault.

The Star says Kappes' family in Franklin said the 36-year-old priest and Ioanna Lekakou were at a Munich airport Tuesday. The FBI confirms that it made contact with Kappes outside of Greece.

Family members say Kappes told them he and Lekakou were in danger because members of her family wanted to kill them to get $70,000 from her inheritance.

Kappes and his family stayed in contact via phone, email and Skype.
