INDIANAPOLIS -

An injured construction worker was lifted from a hole at a construction site near downtown Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters say the 50-year-old employee of Wittenburg Construction was working below ground level when an object fell and struck him in the head and neck. Crews put the worker in a basket and lifted him to the surface.

The man was taken by ambulance across the street to the Methodist Hospital emergency room. The worker was part of a crew working at the Neuro Science Building Construction site.

There was no word on the man's condition.
