WESTFIELD -

A family escaped injury early Monday when a truck smashed into their home in the 16200 block of Countryside Blvd.

According to Westfield Fire Dept. spokesman John Barrett, a man had just sat down on his couch around midnight when he heard a noise coming from outside. Suddenly, his bookcase began shaking and a pick-up truck slammed through the wall. The truck then hit the couch and came to rest halfway inside the home.

The man's wife and child were upstairs and unharmed.

Firefighters worked for less than ten minutes to free the trapped driver of the truck.  He was checked by medics and treated at the scene.

Firefighters were able to rebuild the demolished wall so the family could return to their home.

There is no word on whether the driver faces any charges for leaving the road and striking the home.
