A man is in the hospital, recovering after being shot by police.

At about 3:30am this morning, police were sent to the Country Hearth Inn & Suites, 8800 block of E. 21st St., with the report of a man with a knife.

Police identified him as 29-year-old Anthony Mickle.

911 dispatchers received a call saying that Mickle and the clerk were involved in a "disturbance."

In addition, Cumberland Police said they believed Mickle was involved in an earlier stabbing in their area.

According to a press release, when an IMPD officer arrived, she found Mickle with the knife, in a nearby parking lot. She broadcast over her police radio that he was being "uncooperative."

A confrontation followed, and the officer fired at Mickle, shooting him several times.  He was taken to Wishard Hospital in critical condition, but has since been updated to fair condition.

The officer was not injured.

According to a police statement, as standard operating procedure for an officer-involved shooting, the officer has been placed on paid administrative leave for an undetermined amount of time.
