INDIANAPOLIS -

Ed West, a long-time public relations spokesman in Indianapolis, has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a form of cancer. His wife Barbara Lewis, host of the health radio program Sound Medicine on National Public Radio, will take a leave of absence to care for him.

West, 66, tells Eyewitness News that he's halfway through chemotherapy treatments at IU Health and says it's going "extraordinarily well." West worked in media relations at Eli Lilly & Co for 31 years and as an executive at Wellpoint during the merger with Anthem. He is the president and founder of West & Co., a public relations firm in Indianapolis.

Former WTHR anchor Anne Ryder will replace Barbara Lewis on Sound Medicine until Lewis returns. She's expected to be off the air until the end of the year.
