No parade set for Indiana University's homecoming

Posted: Updated:
BLOOMINGTON -

The traditional Indiana University homecoming parade through the streets of Bloomington isn't being held this weekend for the first time in more than 50 years.

The Friday evening parade is being replaced with a concert on the IU campus' Dunn Meadow that's targeted at students.

IU Alumni Association director JT Forbes tells The Herald Times that organizers will consider resuming a homecoming parade in the future.

But Forbes says most graduates attending homecoming can't make it to a Friday evening parade and that high school bands generally can't take part since they're performing at football games.

Forbes says the university's best chance to involve alumni in homecoming activities is with Saturday's football game, when the Hoosiers will be playing Michigan State.
