The Republican leader of the Indiana House says tax cuts being pushed by gubernatorial candidates might not make it through the chamber next year.

House Speaker Brian Bosma said Thursday that lawmakers had already cut some taxes last year that they need to pay for before considering new tax cuts. Bosma said political candidates often take a short-term view when making promises on the campaign trail.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Mike Pence has called for a 10 percent cut in the state's income tax, while Democratic nominee John Gregg is backing an end to the sales tax on gasoline and the elimination of the corporate income tax for companies based in Indiana.
