ST. MARY-OF-THE-WOODS -

A log cabin replicating one used as a chapel by Indiana's lone Catholic saint in the 1840s has been opened for visitors.

The Sisters of Providence order of nuns founded by Mother Theodore Guerin dedicated the cabin Wednesday at St. Mary-of-the-Woods near Terre Haute.

The Tribune-Star reports that Sisters of Providence general superior Denise Wilkinson says she hopes the cabin will give visitors a unique way to embrace their spirituality and experience what Guerin and her fellow nuns faced when arriving in the Indiana wilderness.

Vigo County Parks superintendent Keith Ruble helped supervise the cabin project and says it took volunteers about a year to build it. Organizers used Guerin's journals to replicate the cabin's wood and stone furniture.

Pope Benedict XVI named Guerin a saint in 2006.
