Lawmakers to host forum on Indiana child services

Posted: Updated:
SOUTH BEND -

Hoosiers will have a chance later this month to discuss Indiana's beleaguered child protection agency.

Democrat state Sen. John Broden of South Bend and Republican Sen. Carlin Yoder of Middlebury will host a public form Oct. 18 at the Ivy Tech campus in South Bend.

The Department of Child Services has drawn attention from legislators following a series of child deaths and the resignation of its director amid an ethics flap last month.

A legislative committee is reviewing the agency's operations and services for at-risk children. Broden says the forum will give northern Indiana residents a chance to express their concerns and possible ways to improve services for abused and neglected children.
