New venue out for Richmond couple in baby's death

RICHMOND -

The trial of a Richmond couple charged with murder in the starvation death of their infant son will remain in Wayne County.

Wayne Superior Court Judge Gregory Horn rejected a venue change for the trial of Joseph Pierson and Amy Hockett in connection with the February 5 death of nearly 4-month-old Khaiden Hockett.

A pathologist ruled the child died of dehydration because of starvation.

Defense attorneys say the media attention the case has received would make seating an impartial jury impossible in Wayne County.

Horn agreed the case has received prejudicial pre-trial coverage, but says the defendants haven't shown it would prevent a jury from reaching an impartial verdict.

The trial is set to begin October 29.
