Musicians have rejected the latest contract offer from the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.
The ISO Musicians announced Tuesday it had rejected the offer because of a contract-termination clause that would allow the orchestra society to cancel the final two years of the proposed five-year deal. Musicians say that's when they would recover substantial portions of salary cuts.
Orchestra spokeswoman Jessica Di Santo says the clause can be removed if the orchestra raises an additional $5 million in new contributions by March 31
She says the offer put forward Monday included a minimum base salary of $53,000 in the first year, increasing to $64,000 in the fourth year and $70,000 in the fifth year.
The musicians say the current minimum is $78,000.
The musicians' contract expired Sept. 2.
