Loved ones want to turn murder site into memorial

FORT WAYNE -

Family and friends of two 19-year-olds fatally shot at a Fort Wayne home last year are trying to raise enough money to demolish it and turn it into a memorial garden.

The News-Sentinel reports the home is for sale for $32,000. Police say Erin Jehl brought along a friend, 19-year-old Ryann Tipton, when she went to her former boyfriend's house in December to retrieve some belongings. Police said her ex-boyfriend, 43-year-old Bart Heller, shot them both, then killed himself.

Tipton's father, Steve Tipton, says the memorial garden would provide a way to bring some good out of the tragedy.

Jehl's mother, Lynn Schneider, says if they can't raise enough money to buy the house, they would use the money to start a foundation for people grieving victims of violence.
