A jury has convicted a Kokomo man of murder and robbery in the slaying of his 85-year-old neighbor.

The Kokomo Tribune reports jurors deliberating 2½ hours Friday before finding 38-year Bradley Ryan guilty in connection with the Aug. 15, 2011, death of 85-year-old Lonnie Lewis.

An autopsy showed Lewis died of a head injury after relatives found him dead in his home. Prosecutor Mark McCann said Ryan hit Lewis in the head with a blunt object and stole a check that he later wrote and cashed for $1,500.

Ryan's attorney, Andy Vandenbosch, maintained his client was innocent of the crime. Ryan did not testify during the trial.

Ryan could face 65 years in prison on the murder charge and 50 years for robbery when he is sentenced Oct. 26
