LAFAYETTE -

There was a public memorial in Lafayette, for 26-year-old Army Staff Sergeant Kyle Osborn, on Saturday. He died serving his country in Afghanistan.

But to most people, Osborn was much more than an Army Sergeant dressed in combat camouflage. His family described him as a "great brother, son and a friend."

His father, Criegh Osborn said, "Kyle Bruce was the apple of his mother's eye. From the moment he was born -- he was a birthday present to her the day after her birthday."

He added, "Kyle lived out, you can only take out anything with you from this earth relationships that you build, so spend time building those relationships."

And Sgt. Osborn was a husband. "Kyle died a hero with his soldiers, with his brothers at his side," said his wife Maggie. "I cannot thank you enough, his family, friends and mentors, for helping making him the man he became."
