Evansville businessman raises $1 million for Romney

Posted: Updated:
EVANSVILLE -

An Evansville businessman who held a fundraiser last month for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney says the event raised more than $1 million.

Steven Chancellor tells the Evansville Courier-Press that about 300 people attended the fundraiser at his northwestern Vanderburgh County home, with tickets costing a minimum of $2,500 a person. He says people from 19 states attended.

Chancellor says Romney spent about two hours at the Aug. 4 fundraiser. Romney also spoke that day with dozens of supporters gathered in Stepto's BBQ Shack in Evansville.

Chancellor is a former owner of Evansville-based Black Beauty Coal and is now chief executive officer of the lobbying firm American Patriot Group. He has previously held fundraisers for the Republican National Committee.
