Indiana gets $2.27M to help adults with disabilities

RICHMOND -

Indiana is getting nearly $2.3 million in federal funds to help disabled adults enter the state's work force.

Indiana's $2.27 million grant is its share of nearly $21 million that the U.S. Department of Labor is splitting among seven states under its Disability Employment Initiative.

The Palladium-Item reports the program aims to improve education, training and employment opportunities for adults with disabilities who are unemployed or underemployed.

The grant will allow Indiana's WorkOne centers to hire staff with expertise in disability and work force issues and to boost collaboration across multiple agencies. Funds also will be used to assist Hoosiers with mental and intellectual disabilities.

The six other states getting funding are Florida, Iowa, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Louisiana and Rhode Island.
