JEFFERSONVILLE -

A southern Indiana garbage truck driver charged in a deadly five-car crash will spend 4 1/2 years on probation but no time behind bars.

WLKY-TV reports 47-year-old Roger Crum Jr. of Jeffersonville pleaded guilty to three counts of felony criminal recklessness and one count of misdemeanor criminal recklessness Tuesday in Clark County court. He surrendered his commercial driver's license for the probation period and his regular driver's license for one year.

The May 2010 crash on Indiana 60 near Sellersburg killed 19-year-old Bethany Burrier of Borden. Crum was driving a Jeffersonville garbage truck that drove into stopped traffic, causing a chain-reaction crash.

Crum didn't address the court and declined to answer reporters' questions after the hearing.

WLKY reports prosecutors offered Crum the plea deal because of problems with evidence.
