MARTINSVILLE -

A Martinsville woman will spend six months in jail after pleading guilty to neglecting her children.

Amanda Vandagrifft, 29, pleaded guilty Monday to leaving her children home alone. One of her sons shot and killed his six-year-old brother.

Prosecutors say Vandagrifft failed to secure her rifle and ammunition before she left home. Her live-in boyfriend pleaded guilty to neglect and began serving six months of home detention in June.

Vandagrifft will serve her sentence at the Morgan County Jail.
