Indianapolis police investigate apparent shooting death

INDIANAPOLIS -

Police are investigating the apparent shooting death of a man on the north side of Indianapolis.

Officers responded to the report of a person shot in the 3500 block of N. Illinois Street around 8:50 p.m. Monday. Emergency crews pronounced a 53-year-old man found inside the home dead. The man had apparently been shot.

Police have made a preliminary identification of the victim, but are withholding that information pending notification of his family. An autopsy will determine the exact cause of the man's death Tuesday morning.

Investigators are seeking information from possible witnesses in the area and are attempting to identify a suspect or suspects. Anyone with information about a possible suspect in the shooting is asked to call IMPD Homicide at 317-327-3475 or Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.
