Doctors' group warns of trampoline danger for kids

Posted: Updated:

The American Academy of Pediatrics report finds that although trampoline injury rates have been steadily decreasing over the past few years, 98,000 trampoline-related injuries still occurred in 2009, resulting in 3,100 hospitalizations.

75 percent of injuries happen when multiple people are jumping on the mat. The smallest children are at greater risk for more serious injury.

48 percent of children under five who were hurt suffered fractures or dislocations.

The researchers found those trampolines with nets around them generally aren't any safer, since two-thirds of the injuries happen when a child or adult hits the mat incorrectly.
