INDIANAPOLIS -

State Sen. Brent Steele (R) is proposing a change to Indiana's laws regarding marijuana possession.

Steele would like to change the law so that it's an infraction for possession of ten grams or less. That means violators would get a fine instead of potential jail time.

He plans to introduce the proposal in the 2013 session.

"We just spend thousands of dollars on this and I think it's a waste of money," Steele said, referring to the cost of prosecuting people for the minor offenses.
