EMMITSBURG, MD -
An Indianapolis Fire Department battalion chief, along with three other Indiana firefighters who died in the line of duty, will be honored at a national service next month.
The 31st Annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service will honor the four men, who are among the 80 firefighters who died in 2011 and five firefighters who died in previous years.
An official national service will held at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland on Sunday, October 7.
Included in this ceremony are:
Battalion Chief Steve Auch, age 56, of the Indianapolis Fire Dep artment died of a heart attack within 24 hours of responding to multiple calls on February 1, 2011.
Firefighter/Paramedic Scott T. Davis, age 40, of the Muncie Fire Department died from injuries sustained in a roof collapse at a church fire on June 15, 2011.
Firefighter Travis L. Miller, age 31, of the Waterloo-Grant Township Volunteer Fire Department died of a heart attack after responding to a structure fire on July 20, 2011.
Firefighter/EMT Timothy Ray White, age 50, of the Cedar Lake Fire Department died on August 5, 2011 after suffering a heart attack during technical rescue training.

The names of those firefighters who died in the line of duty will be added to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial on the Academy grounds. The national tribute is sponsored by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) and the Department of Homeland Security.
More than 6,000 people, including Members of Congress, Administration officials and other dignitaries, members of the fire service, and families and friends of the fallen firefighters will attend the event. Families will receive flags flown over the U. S. Capitol and the National Memorial. Members of the fire service, honor guard units and pipe and drum units from across the U.S. will participate in the national tribute.
