Officiating numbers accurate or off-base?

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK -

The numbers say there isn't much difference with replacement officials. Comments from players and coaches say otherwise.

As the public outrage grows louder over calls and non-calls, delays in doling out penalties or rampant indecision by the replacements, statistics show strong similarities between this year's number of penalties and last year's flags thrown by the guys who are currently locked out.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello says, "We are going to do everything possible to raise the level of performance of the current officials" through training tapes, conference calls and meetings. The league does that with the regular officials, too.
