Competency, venue to be discussed for Indiana murder suspect

NEW ALBANY -

A judge and lawyers are set to discuss a date for a competency hearing for a southern Indiana man charged with killing three women and where his first capital murder trial will be held.

The Courier-Journal of Louisville, Ky., reports Floyd Superior Court Judge Susan Orth scheduled a hearing Wednesday regarding 54-year-old William Clyde Gibson III of New Albany.

A court docket reveals a psychiatrist who examined Gibson found him competent to stand trial. A second evaluation remains undisclosed.

Floyd County Prosecutor Keith Henderson said the Sept. 28 hearing also might determine whether to move Gibson's first trial set for February or, as Orth prefers, bring in a jury from another county. He faces a possible death penalty if convicted of killing 75-year-old Christine Whitis of Clarksville.
