Vacant northeast side home destroyed in fire

Posted: Updated:

Firefighters were called to the 2500 block of Carrollton Ave. Tuesday afternoon to put out a fire at a vacant home.

Heavy fire and smoke was showing as the Indianapolis Fire Department arrived on the scene at around 2:30 pm. Firefighters launched an offensive attack, then switched to a defensive attack until it was controlled.

Firefighters used four hand lines, two aerials and three supply lines to put out the fire, which caused about $75,000 in damage. IFD believes the home is a total loss.

The cause is under investigation, and the Unsafe Buildings Division was called in to investigate structural concerns.

No injuries were reported. The home was not hooked up to any utilities and had no working smoke detectors.
