INDIANAPOLIS -

Indiana State Police arrested 346 people for driving drunk last weekend, with 55 of those in the Indianapolis area.

The arrests are the result of statewide patrols targeting impaired or dangerous drivers.

Statewide, troopers issued 4,105 tickets, give 6,646 warnings and arrested 346 for DUI Friday and Saturday nights.

In the Indianapolis district, which covers Marion, Hendricks, Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Shelby and Johnson Counties, troopers wrote 744 tickets, gave 634 warnings and arrested 55 for DUI.

ISP says they plan to conduct more sobriety checkpoints to catch impaired drivers and deter people from drinking and driving. If you spot a suspected impaired driver, call 911 or call the Indianapolis Indiana State Police Post at (317) 899-8577 and be prepared to give a description of the vehicle, location, and direction of travel.
