Tennessee man gets 28 years on firearms charges

EVANSVILLE -

A Tennessee man has been sentenced to 28 years in prison on federal firearms charges stemming from a robbery at an Evansville pawn shop.

A federal jury convicted 46-year-old Ricky Dillard in May on charges that included possession of a firearm by a felon and brandishing a firearm during a violent crime. The Memphis, Tenn., native was sentenced Monday by a federal judge in Evansville who noted Dillard's lengthy criminal record.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports Dillard was accused of breaking into the Fares Loan and Pawn Shop last year and stealing jewelry and three firearms. He struck a man with a handgun who tried to stop him from fleeing the store.

Officers found Dillard along with the stolen merchandise at a local motel.
