"American Idol" welcomes Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban as judges

LOS ANGELES -

Nicki Minaj says if someone auditions for "American Idol" with one of her songs, she will probably crack up.

Minaj and Keith Urban join Mariah Carey at the "Idol" judges panel, and Randy Jackson confirms he will return as a judge as well. Jackson says he's excited Carey is there because more than half the female contestants want to be her.

Urban says he used to do shows like this when he was young and he was "crucified" by a judge, so he doubts he'll ever be the mean judge.

Carey says she brings a lot of experience but she wants it to be about the contestants rather than about her.

Ryan Seacrest says the new judges panel means a lot of diversity this season.
