Keith Wenning threw for three touchdowns and caught another Saturday, and Steven Schott made a 42-yard field goal as time expired to give Ball State its third straight win over Indiana, 41-39.
The winning score was set up by Willie Snead's diving 18-yard reception as he slid out of bounds with 1 second left. The play was reviewed and the call on the field was upheld.
Wenning was terrific all night for Ball State (2-1), especially in the second half. He finished 26 of 44 for 222 yards and had his first career reception, a 12-yard TD catch.
But it was the finish that had everyone talking.
True freshman Nate Sudfeld rallied the Hoosiers with a 70-yard TD pass and a 2-yard TD pass to Shane Wynn with 49 seconds to go, which gave Indiana (2-1) a 39-38 lead.
Wenning came right back, getting Schott in position for the win.
