IndyCar drivers respect Conway for not racing

Posted: Updated:
FONTANA, Calif. -

There was unanimous support in IndyCar on Friday for driver Mike Conway's decision to pull out of the season finale because he was uncomfortable racing on the oval at Auto Club Speedway.

Conway participated in Wednesday's open test at Fontana. He then informed A.J. Foyt Racing he did not want to race Saturday night because he was not comfortable in the car.

The team called in Wade Cunningham to replace him.

Conway sustained serious leg and back injuries in a 2010 crash at Indianapolis, and he wrecked there again in this year's race.

Fellow drivers called Conway courageous for giving up his ride.
