Michael Jackson: concert promoter seeks Jermaine book drafts

Posted: Updated:
LOS ANGELES -

A major concert promoter is trying to hit the books when it comes to Michael Jackson. In this case, the "books" are drafts and manuscripts written by the late pop star's brother, Jermaine.

AEG Live is trying to get hold of the documents because it claims they might have details about Michael Jackson that will help its defense in a lawsuit filed by the singer's mother. AEG wants drafts and manuscripts of Jermaine's recent book "You Are Not Alone" - as well as a memoir that was never published.

AEG believes the unpublished book may focus on Michael Jackson's alleged drug abuse.

Attorneys for Jermaine are fighting the request, calling them overly broad and in violation of the First Amendment. Katherine Jackson is suing AEG, claiming the promoter failed to supervise Conrad Murray, the doctor hired to care for the singer before his scheduled 2009 comeback tours.
