INDIANAPOLIS -
Metro homicide detectives are on scene of a man shot in a car in the 3700 block of North Shadeland Avenue. The white Dodge Charger had its lights on when authorities arrived at the scene.
Medics said the man inside the car died around 3:30 a.m. Police are not releasing his identity until relatives are notified, but they say he was 41 years old.
Police at the scene tell Eyewitness News the dead man was in the Charger with two other people when it pulled off Interstate 70 onto Shadeland. Then another car pulled alongside and a person in the second car shot into the Charger.
The three drove north on Shadeland to the 3700 block and called 911.
Officers working in the area of Interstate 70 and Shadeland reported hearing several gunshots just prior to the 911 call, but when they went to the area to investigate, they could not locate anything.
Crime lab technicians are gathering evidence at the scene, which is a parking lot near a beauty salon, and further south on Shadeland, where they believe the shots were fired.
Police have not provided a description of the second vehicle.
