DA clears deputies in lethal shooting of Indiana couple

CLINTON, Tenn. -

A Tennessee prosecutor's review of a police shooting has cleared the two deputies who fatally shot an Indiana couple.

According to The Knoxville News Sentinel, District Attorney Dave Clark said Tuesday that no criminal charges were warranted against Anderson County Officer Jonathan Bryant and Investigator James Daniel Powell.

It isn't clear why 32-year-old Joseph "Mikey" Baker and 25-year-old Shanna Lee Richardson were in East Tennessee. An investigation showed the couple stole a pickup truck from a veterinarian clinic near their home in Linton, Ind., on Feb. 28.

Tennessee police chased the pickup at speeds up to 100 mph after the couple drove off without paying for fuel.

Witnesses and dash camera video indicate Baker and Richardson were shooting at officers after a flat tire made them stop the truck.
