INDIANAPOLIS -

Fall break is approaching. Many families now on a balanced school calendar have more time during the break to actually take a vacation. And if you hurry, you can find some pretty amazing travel deals.

Fall was traditionally a good time to travel because you could find the best deals.  Now that more people have more time off during the month of October, it's becoming more like spring break, but there are still some deals out there, including cruises, European destinations, and the Phoenix area.

The most popular place for vacationers in Indianapolis is Orlando, Florida because of its family-friendly theme parks. Travel agencies are booking those trips fast, and say time is running out.

"There is still time available depending on dates," according Bethanne Brown of The Travel Authority. "Flexibility is key."  For instance, if you have the luxury of a two-week time period, Brown said looking at Saturday through Saturday will give you that flexibility. Availability is getting limited, but good deals are still available.

Cruising seems to be the best deal at this point, if you have a passport. That will be your key to finding better deals if you are booking now.

Two very important things to consider no matter where you are headed - fuel prices and travel insurance.

There is a big difference though between traveling now and in the spring because of the possibility of hurricanes. That is a big reason to consider travel insurance.

Brown recommends making sure you know what is covered.  "A lot of insurance covers you before, but not while you are traveling," she said. Brown recommends checking on medical expenses, emergency medical evacuation, and what happens if your trip is interrupted.

Gas prices could be impacted this fall by the industry moving toward cheaper winter blends, stability in the Middle East, refineries recovering from storm shutdowns due to Isaac, and a traditionally lower demand.
