Indiana candidates suspend ads on 9/11 anniversary

Posted: Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

Indiana candidates are pausing their campaign air wars in honor of victims of the 9/11 attacks.

Gubernatorial candidates Mike Pence and John Gregg and Democratic Senate candidate Joe Donnelly suspended their ads Tuesday. Gregg said it would be wrong to air ads on the "somber day."

Republican Richard Mourdock was the only top-ticket candidate with ads still running Tuesday. Deputy campaign manager Brose McVey says the campaign asked Monday that one of two ads be taken down, but the request came too late for most stations.

Pence and Donnelly attended a Capitol Hill ceremony remembering the victims. Mourdock planned to speak at a remembrance event in Indianapolis Tuesday evening.

The decisions bring a brief respite from ads as the campaigns increase their television spending heading into the Nov. 6 election.
