Medic hurt in ambulance shooting out of hospital

FORT WAYNE -

Authorities say a Fort Wayne ambulance was hit by at least 16 bullets as it was transporting a person from a nightclub stabbing.

Three Rivers Ambulance Authority spokesman Mike Gillespie says one of the medics was hit by bullet fragments and has been released from a hospital since the shooting about 3 a.m. Sunday. Gillespie tells The Journal Gazette that the ambulance's back windows were shot out.

Officers caught four men who they believe were in the car from which shots were fired at the ambulance and a car carrying three friends that was following the ambulance.

Officer Jeremy Webb says three of the men were arrested on charges not related to the shooting while it remained under investigation. The three people from the car were also wounded.
