Hoosier vets visit Washington, DC

INDIANAPOLIS -

Monday is a special day for dozens of Central Indiana veterans as they fly to Washington, D.C. to visit memorials dedicated to their service.

A total of 80 veterans and their guardians will go from Stout Field, to Indianapolis International airport where they'll board planes headed to Washington.

The priority of the event is to take as many World War II veterans as possible. Their ranks are dwindling and on average about 900 pass away each day. It's estimated that in 5 to 7 years, there will be no more vets from the second World War.

The trip includes a stop at the World War II memorial and the tomb of the unknown soldier. In the past three years some 85,000 vets have been flown to D.C. from across the country.

It costs $400 per vet for the trip. The money is raised from donations. To learn more about the program, click here.
