Fans grade the Colts opener

INDIANAPOLIS -

What grade would you give the new Colts? We asked fans gathered at the Front Page restaurant to watch the game against Chicago Sunday afternoon.

They wrote their grades on a dry erase board in the restaurant, and graded the Colts on offense, defense and the new quarterback, Andrew Luck.

On the topic of offense, not everyone is on board with the program.  On average, Colts fans we spoke with gave the Offense a grade of B-minus.  Among the comments about the Colts offense in their 41-21 loss to the Bears:

"Not what I thought."
"They have done better than I thought."
"Not what we would expect out of an Indianapolis team."
"I think, compared to last year, it has done pretty well. They have room to grow."

On to the other side of the ball, fans seemed pleased with the team"s progress on defense, giving the unit an A-minus against the Bears.  The comments there:

"I'm gonna give them an A. They scored as much as the offense has...they were the first to get points on the board."
"Defense could be a little bit better...maybe B-minus."

Now to Andrew Luck. Many Colts fans are still warming up to the new quarterback and the expectations for the Stanford graduate are high.  So his performance, which almost mirrored the legendary Peyton Manning's debut with the Colts, graded out to a B-minus.  The comments on Luck:

"I actually like Luck. I think he is a very good choice, so I'm actually gonna go A-minus."
"It is too early. He had some good luck in the first half that I think gave him some momentum. It is going to take a few games to tell what he is really going to produce."
"I want to see some improvement. That might be a little harsh, I think reality needs to set in and they need to do some work."

With 15 games remaining in the season, the Colts have 15 opportunities to improve their grade with fans.
