NEW CASTLE -

Customers at a diner in an eastern Indiana city were evacuated shortly before fire destroyed the building.

Henry County Police Capt. Kim Cronk says Bill's Diner in New Castle was evacuated about 4:45 p.m. after someone in the building smelled smoke.

Cronk tells The Indianapolis Star there were no injuries.

He says flames were shooting out of the building as firefighters worked to contain them. He said the building in the city about 45 miles east of Indianapolis couldn't be salvaged.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
