ANDERSON, Ind. -
Thirty-one-year-old Amanda Wiles was murdered in June. Police in Lapel say she was a victim of domestic violence.
Police say 53-year-old Roy Parmley shot Amanda Wiles after Amanda's mother, Terry, broke up with him. Police later found Parmley's body after investigators believe he killed himself.
Sunday, a golf fundraiser was held in Madison County to honor Amanda Wiles. Golfers spent time supporting a cause for a woman they never personally knew.
Angie Richardson organized the "Mandy's Wish" event,"I have people come up to me all the time and don't know her but are touched by the story. They want to get involved and be aware that domestic violence happens in our county and surrounding areas."
Friends gathered to prevent domestic violence.
The fairways at Edgewood County Club on Sunday accented with pink. Created to honor Amanda Wiles, Mandy's Wish collects money for domestic violence victims.
Angie Richardson tells Eyewitness News, "We want people to know there is help. They can get out and not stay in this dangerous situation because you never know when it will escalate."
Mandy's Wish has already raised thousands of dollars. Some from large community donations and some from small bake sales. Some of that money was used to pay Amanda Wiles' funeral and tombstone expenses.
Friend, Jill Tyree tells Eyewitness News Amanda Wiles would have wanted a fundraiser like the one organized Sunday. Jill Tyree grew up with Amanda Wiles. She along with other "Angles" are working to make Mandy's Wish a recognized non profit.
Tyree says, "I feel her with me all the time. She keeps me so motivated. If you knew her she touched your life in some way and if you didn't you still want to help. In this respect by helping others through her."
At the Mandy's Wish fundraiser, the group honored the men who found Roy Parmley's body. Bryan Hutchinson and Bryce Schmollinger each received a reward.
