Anderson Police Department sets service for slain dogs

ANDERSON -

A central Indiana police department is planning a public memorial service for two police dogs that died from violent confrontations this summer.

The Anderson Police Department says the service will be held Saturday afternoon at the Anderson East Side Church of God followed by a procession to the downtown police station.

One of the dogs, named Magnum, died last month a couple days after being shot by a suspected bank robber it was tracking.

The other dog, named Kilo, died when it mistook an officer as an aggressor and had to be shot during a July standoff in Pendleton. Kilo's handler was injured and a passer-by was killed.

The department has been raising money to replace the dogs.
