Rail improvement hearings in Indiana, Illinois, Michigan

Posted: Updated:
MICHIGAN CITY -

The Indiana Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting in Michigan City to help prepare an environmental impact statement on a high-speed rail corridor between Chicago and Detroit.

The meeting will be held Sept. 13 at City Hall in Michigan City. The departments of transportation in Michigan and Illinois also will hold meetings.

Officials say the environmental impact statement will help evaluate passenger rail improvements along a 304-mile corridor in three states. They say effects on the environment, jobs, the economy, air quality, traffic, and neighborhoods will be considered in the study.

The meetings also are being held to introduce the public to the program and to discuss the need for the improvements.

All comments must be received by Oct. 15 to be included in the environmental impact statement.
