Fall Creek Valley Middle School, Sunnyside Elementary and Forest Glen Elementary Schools were on a perimeter lockdown after a SWAT situation in the 10000 block of Alexia Drive in Lawrence before noon Wednesday. The school lockdown was lifted shortly before 2:00 pm.
Police were called to the scene after a person was reported shot. The victim, a 16-year-old girl, was taken to Methodist Hospital where she underwent surgery.
Officers believed that the shooting suspect may have been inside the home, but they later entered the home and determined he was not there.
Police say the suspect is also a teenager. Police say the investigation has led them to believe the shooting was accidental but the alleged shooter ran from the scene.
Police would like to talk to the alleged shooter to find out exactly what happened.
