FORT WAYNE -

Activists in Fort Wayne's Burmese community say Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi will visit the Indiana city next month.

Burmese Advocacy Center director Minn Myint Nan Tin said in a statement Tuesday that the democracy advocate from Myanmar will visit Fort Wayne Sept. 25, while she is in the U.S. to accept the 2008 Congressional Gold Medal in Washington and the Global Citizenship Award in New York.

The group says Suu Kyi will deliver a public speech at Memorial Coliseum.

Suu Kyi spent 15 of the last 21 years under house arrest as a political prisoner for her struggle against military rule in her homeland in southeast Asia.

Some 4,000 Burmese live in the Fort Wayne area, one of the country's largest concentrations.
