Michael Jackson: deal in copyright infringement case reached

Posted: Updated:
LOS ANGELES -

It was a case that was supposed to go to trial yesterday. But instead, lawyers for Michael Jackson's estate reached an out-of-court settlement a copyright infringement lawsuit against a businessman working with the singer's mother.

The $2.5 million settlement restricts Howard Mann and his companies from using the late singer's likeness without permission in the future. The issue has been hashed over for the past year and a half.

At stake was the Mann's use of Jackson's name and likeness on a Web site used to promote unreleased songs, photographs and a book written by Katherine Jackson filled with recollections of her son.
