CHARLOTTE -
Everyone, in general, who attends a political convention, is out to build a better America.
Some more than others.
At this juncture, it is hard to find anything Democrats and Republicans can work on together, except for a house currently under construction at 510 College Avenue in downtown Charlotte.
"We are going to put this house together and, by Thanksgiving, we are hands down giving this away to a veteran," said a Habitat for Humanity organizer.
Allen was among dozens helping building the house.
"We are building a house for a veteran. Half of it is built here, the other half in Tampa," said Brandon Allen, a delegate from Columbus, Indiana.
Lynn Hamilton is another Indiana delegate, from Sullivan. She decided to pick up a paint brush, as well, to help finish the bi-partisan Habitat for Humanity home.
"It's very exciting. I like to give back to my community at home and this is something exciting for us to do here in Charlotte. It's really kind of nice to have both parties doing it, although ours will be the best. Just kidding, just kidding," Hamilton said.
"They believe here the country needs to come together and it does, so it's fun to be here on Labor Day, doing a community service activity. It's a real blast," Allen said.
It may be the only house to be built in halves by two factions of people who are more than just geographically apart, but philosophically, as well. Maybe that is to show the politicians that nothing is impossible.
